Click here to appreciate the beauty of the National Park where we are based

Our learning venue is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty in a part of Italy, largely unknown to tourism, that can boast the richest of gastronomic traditions. The small town of Tredozio is dominated by the ruins of a castle that dates back to the tenth century, but there have been inhabitants here since the Bronze Age. It is believed that Hannibal crossed the Appenines above here in 218 B.C. when he began his descent towards Rome. The town was influenced by the spiritual reawakening after 1000 which saw the arrival of a number of religious communities and then flourished further when it passed to Florence in 1428. The architecture and culinary traditions now present a harmonious mix of those of Tuscany and Romagna.

The town lies inside one of the most prized, and best-preserved forests in Europe in the Casentino Forest National Park. The park is rich in flora and fauna, including the Apennine wolf, three species of deer, wild boar and mountain sheep. There are numerous trails through the Park that can be traveled on foot, horseback or bike and many charateristic hamlets to be explored.
A scenic train route passes through the town of Marradi (10 km frm Tredozio) taking you to Florence; a ideal start to the day in this delightful city if you want to do some serious sight-seeing or shopping.
